Rolling Stock Construction

Building equipment like this take space, time, and machinery. I have use of the two car garage to do this. You need to consider tables or stands to put them on. No sense working bent over and damaging your back. Saw horses, concrete blocks, and other tables or stands work for this purpose

Here is just some of the euipment I use to build my projects. To save time and effort, I use a great deal of power equipment to save time and effort. Some is electric, and some is air powered. Here you can see the hand tools, the saftefy equipment, and some of the power tools. I use the same power tools for both wood and steel, but I do change the blades. You can see the 10" miter saw and the 6 inch bench grinder here. And, depening on the area you live and the time of the year, you may need heat or fans!. You cannot see from this view, the drill press or the radial arm saw that is used on these projects.

Lots of chips, lots of saw dust, lots of abrasive debris are all potential for problems. To avoid personal injury and property damage, you will NEED safety glasses, gloves, a fire extinguisher, welding mask, welding gloves as a minimum.

And, in addition to "standard" hand tools like wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers and hammers, you will need clamps, many sizes and shapes, power drills (electric, cordless, or air operated). One is all you "need" but more drills make it easier since you will do a lot of pilot drilling before you drill the full size hole. Pneumatic wrenches my help, a welder if you are doing steel, and most likely a router if you are doing wood. Plan to make a lot of fixtures and jigs to help in holding and aligning parts during drilling and welding.
